Hidden Child
Jeannine Burk was a Jew during the time of WWII in Belgium. Belgium was supposed to stay neutral but Hitler ignored this and took it over with the help of the king. Jeannine's parents found hiding homes for her brother and sister then they eventually found one for her. Jeannine's father took three year old Jeannine on a streetcar. They arrived at some woman's home and her dad handed her over. That was the last time she ever saw her father again.
She was hidden for 2 years in a house where she was not mistreated but was not loved. Burk was imprisoned in the house and was rarely allowed in the backyard for the sake of her safety. When the Nazis paraded she had to hide in the outhouse.
When she left the house of the woman she was once again reunited with her family. Her dad had been gased in the concentration camp and if she had stayed with him she would have been gased too. Her mother obtained breast cancer later on and had to have a breast removed. But, it was to late because the cancer had already spread across her body.
Jeannine had a tough life and she had it because of simply being a Jew. She had always wanted to thank the woman who helped keep her safe all those years from ages three to five but she had never found out her name. She hopes she is safe or her family is safe and well. Jeannine Burk said that the last thing she can do is FORGIVE and FORGET!
